Season 2 Update By Neil Jackson
Neil Jackson has made a post on his MySpace page about the situation surrounding a possible season two of Blade: The Series. He talks about the ratings, the demographics, and what the network is currently thinking about the show.
Neil Jackson wrote:
A few weeks back SPIKE hosted a sunday marathon of all of the ep’s to date. This gave us a 40% increase in viewers. Something we have managed to hold. The current ratings are holding around the 1-1.2 million mark (I got these figures from one of the producers). If the weekly average were to be taken into account that number would be around 3 million. That’s pretty good. But the main ratings number is still lower than they would have hoped. Add to that the gender demograph and we start to realise their hesitancy.
The show started off very strong but then had a bit of a nose dive. It looks like the marathon they had has helped bring the show back up quite a bit, though we aren’t in the clear just yet. He goes on to say that the last few episodes will be looked at closely and the decision will be heavily influenced by those numbers. He concludes by saying “My gut tells me that it’s a 50/50 chance, though I remain optimistic.”
Head over to Jackson’s MySpace page to read the full update.
*update 2 - Neil Jackson has posted in the forums that last night’s episode “Hunters” had a 30% jump in ratings! He’s confident that if those numbers hold for the last couple episodes that the show will make it back next season.
*update 1 - updated with the correct source information, it was posted on Jackson’s MySpace page, but I found out about it over at the official forums here.

New Poll: Which Character is Most Likely to Die?
With there only being two episodes left, I decided that the new poll should ask you all who you think might be the most likely character to die off before the season ends. Season finales often throw in some big twists and those twists sometimes mean character’s go bye bye. I’ve added just about every character to the poll choices (even Blade), so you should have plenty of options. The poll is going to be closed some time next Tuesday (Sept. 5), probably around 7-8 pm PST, so make sure you vote by then.
Below is a list of the characters you can vote for.
- Blade
- Marcus
- Krista
- Chase
- Shen
- Charlotte
- Collins
- Boone
- Frederick
- Nobody
While it may seem like most of those characters are regulars that couldn’t possibly be killed off this season, remember that other semi main characters were unexpectedly killed. For example; the unfortunately Fritz beheading, the Reverend Carlyle backstabbing, and of course the Steppin’ Razor kabob. I doubt Blade has even a remote chance of being killed off, but I wanted to add him just in case. Buffy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer was killed off in an episode, so it could definitely happen here (though once again, I doubt it).
As always, the poll can be located on the right sidebar.

Episode 11: Hunters
Recap and Review
Last week’s episode ended with the surprise Krista and Marcus bed scene, leaving us to wonder what will become of our heroine. Well, Blade doesn’t waste time this week as he knocks her out and drags her into a holding cell forcing her to go cold turkey for most of the episode. While she’s locked up Blade and Shen have a little work to do taking on a lone vampire who calls himself the White Prince.
The White Prince storyline actually allows Blade to explain to Shen (and us) that there are splinter groups of vampires out there that don’t belong to one of the twelve Houses. These groups even have their own familiars and glyphs (I’ve recreated the White Prince glyph to the right). This notion of rebel groups brings us even more possiblities for conflict, especially with a seemingly unavoidable vampire civil war.
Anyway, back to the White Prince and all his gruesomeness. We’re introduced to him in a very Saw like moment as he videotapes himself torturing a young woman. Shen and Blade pick up the case after Shen is convinced by the sister of a suspected victim. After raiding a club or two and using the sister as bait, our two heroes find the White Prince’s lair. They each proceed to kick some butt with Shen taking on the vampire’s familiar and Blade doing his thing ashing the Prince. I found it funny how Shen preached to Blade earlier in the episode about giving people second chances and that their job is to save lives and then he goes on to kill the familiar without hesitation. Obviously Shen realized there’s a time for playing nice and there’s a time for kicking some bad guy butt. It was definitely nice to see him do more than just tag along.

Krista and Marcus Sitting in a Tree K-I-L-L-I-N-G
Well, I doubt it comes as a surpise but Marcus won the latest poll that asked who Krista should end up with. 207 people voted - another great turnout. Below are the final tallies.
Who should Krista end up with?
Marcus: 154 (74%)
Nobody: 24 (12%)
Blade: 18 (9%)
Shen: 7 (3%)
Collins: 2 (1%)
Frederick: 1 (0%)
Boone: 1 (0%)Total: 207
So, Marcus won by quite a large margin. The only real surprise for me was that Frederick only got 1 vote. Like in the previous poll, I really thought he was an extremely popular character, but again, his lack of screen time may have hurt him. I’m also surprised that Boone got a vote, though my guess is that it may have been a joke.
I know a few people wanted me to place Chase on the list as an option. Let me just say that I didn’t do it because I felt she would likely get many votes just because of it being “girl on girl” and not because of any real reasons. I do believe some may have had legitimate votes for her, but I guess I was just playing it safe by not including a potential poll killer.

Krista Poll To End Tomorrow
I’ll be closing the current poll around 8:00 pm PST tomorrow (not an exact time, just an estimate). If you’ve not voted yet, make sure you do it tonight or early tomorrow to guarantee you’re vote counts.
I’ll post a recap and analysis some time on Wednesday before the next episode airs. At that point I’ll also give my thoughts on who Krista should end up with. I don’t want to give my opinion beforehand as it might influence a few votes one way or another.
After this Wednesday’s episode I’ll probably put up a new poll (probably some time Thursday or Friday).
It’s Quiet… A Little Too Quiet
You’ve probably noticed the lack of news regarding the show. That, coupled with the growing anticipation to hear any information about the future of the series (namely whether or not there will be a second season), is probably killing you. Well, rest assured, it’s killing me too.
I’ve been scouring the internet for any word on whether or not Spike TV will pick up the show for another season, and know that once I find something, I’ll post it here as soon as possible. Likewise, if any of you find anything, please let me know either via the comments or by using the contact form.
My guess is that it will take at least one more episode for Spike TV to be convinced that the show is worth keeping. Goyer, Jackson, Wagner, and many other key cast and crew of the show continue to reach out for our support, so let’s not let them down - keep watching the show!

Squirrelinabox Network Updates
In case you hadn’t noticed, this site is part of my network of sites called the Squirrelinabox Network. I post news and updates about my sites from time to time as well as giving some inside information on some future projects that I’m working on.
Anyway, you may be wondering what this all has to do with this particular site. Well, I’ve just posted a little update on my network site that just so happens to talk about this site. The main thing I mention is that this place had just over 1400 visitors last Thursday, a site record for me. I hope this increase means more and more people are watching the show, and as such, mean the ratings are improving enough to force a second season of Blade: The Series.
I just wanted to point that out and hopefully get people excited that there seems to still be a growing interest in the show. I know we’re all hoping for a second season, and it looks like the number of people wanting that are growing each day.

Goyer And Johns Talk About Detroit
Blade: The Series writers David Goyer and Geoff Johns talked with The Detroit News about their reasons behind choosing Detroit as the setting for the series. Well, there’s really one main reason, and that’s the fact that both Goyer and Johns are from the Detroit area.
They do talk about other aspects of the show besides the setting, such as the differences between movies and TV, episode growth, and even DVD possibilities.
From the article:
“We’ve been shooting R-rated stuff and the idea for the DVDs is that it will be bloodier and have more nudity and be more foul,” Goyer said. “We have been cognizant of that since the beginning, so every time you see a script, there will be a clean version and an R-rated version.”
I find it interesting that they’ve been shooting extra material to be used in a possible DVD release. I’m definitely excited about the idea of a DVD release having some more “mature” material thrown in. It’ll likely make things fresh the second time through since there’ll be changes and additions.
They also talk about other outlets for the Blade universe, such as new movies and possibly an animated series. It all comes down to how well the Spike TV series does. I personally am more immediately concerned about there being a second season. Give me that and I’ll be happy… for now.

New Poll: Who should Krista end up with?
With last night’s episode pushing Krista into Marcus’ corner, I’m curious to know what you all think about it. Should Krista end up with Marcus? Should she and Blade start something up? Should Frederick come back and sweep her off her feet? Maybe the less likely Shen, Collins, or Boone should be her companion? Perhaps she’s best by herself.
I’m pretty sure I know how most votes will go, but I’m still curious. I have my opinion but I’ll try and stay impartial until the results are in. As for when they the poll will close, I’m planning on ending it next Tuesday. I think the poll really shouldn’t run into the next episode since it will likely have a huge bearing on people’s thoughts, thus changing their minds midway through the polling.
So, you’ve got just under a week to vote. That should give you all enough time to calm yourselves down over last night’s incredible episode.
Episode 10: Angels and Demons
Recap and Review
Oh. Hell. Yes. Episode 10, Angels and Demons, delivers some incredible backstory with surprising twists that answer a few questions while presenting us with a few more.
The previous episode left us with Krista shooting at her newly turned mother. They left it in such a way that we couldn’t know whether or not she actually ashed her though. Tonight’s episode doesn’t waste time in letting us know that Krista did, in fact, kill her own mother. As many have suspected, the recent events inolving momma Starr cause Krista to begin a downward spiral to the vampire “darkside”. Luckily, Marcus sends Chase after Krista to bring her in, which she does, just before Krista was about to perform her first “real” feeding.
Krista doesn’t respond so well to Marcus’ summoning though, as she starts a fight with him that he ends rather quickly (though not without getting cut by Krista first). Realizing Krista has some issues she needs to take care of, Marcus chains her up in bed letting her deal with her problems on her own. Well, not quite on her own, as she spends most of the episode re-living parts of Marcus’ pre-vampire life using the bond the two have with each other.
The flashbacks we’re given of Marcus’ past reveal an incredible amount of information. First, Marcus did have a wife (Isabelle) and she did have similar features to Krista. Second, Marcus was turned in Detroit around 1899 which makes him a bit over 100. Lastly, Damek ran a protection racket type scam where he ended up threatening Marcus and eventually raping and feeding on Isabelle right in front of him. Damek left Marcus for dead, but Marcus was found by what appeared to be some form of savage Daywalker vampires and was turned by them.
These flashbacks are timed perfectly with the arrival of Damek to Marcus’ office in the House of Chthon. Damek, not satisfied with merely being let back into the council, decides he wants a stake (pardon the pun) in Marcus’ financial affairs. Marcus decides he’s waited long enough for revenge, so he attacks Damek, eventually ashing him. Before dying, Damek let’s Marcus know that he doesn’t even remember Marcus (as a human) or Isabelle.
