Reader Question: Why Did Marcus Turn Krista?
Joponica has sent in a “two parter” with the first part asking about the second season. I mentioned in the previous Reader Question post (Joponica wrote in before I made that post) that I’m on the look out for when they announce any second season info, and I’ll be posting it the moment I get it. The second part of Joponica’s email is what this post is all about and it asks for some interpretations and predictions on Marcus’ intentions towards Krista.
Joponica writes:
This may not be the forum to ask this, but will they post if the show gets renewed? We see Marcus’s hatred against to purebloods and now Chase knows as well. I still don’t get why he turned Krista. I noticed that when Glynnis refered to Marcus’s woman Charlotte thought automatically of Chase, but Glynnis meant Krista. Thus far, we have seen nothing but maybe sexual tension between the two. What do you think Marcus really turned Krista for? Did he kill ger brother to bring her to him?
So why did our main villain turn the once innocent beauty? Last night’s episode revealed a possible reason when pureblood Alex told Chase that Marcus was falling into old habits, namely that Krista resembled Marcus’ wife. This little tidbit opens up a whole new world of possible motivations for Marcus. If Alex was telling the truth, and Marcus did have a wife, his turning of Krista could be as simple as him seeing his wife in her. I don’t think it’s that easy though.
I’m thinking Marcus still doesn’t fully trust Chase, which is sad since she betrayed an ex lover and risked her life helping Marcus and his experiments (which she didn’t know the full scope of until recently - and she may not still know everything). We know Chase is vicious and manipulative, but so far she has been extraordinarily loyal to Marcus. However, the pilot episode showed her smirk when Marcus was sent in to the purebloods to be disciplined for turning Krista without permission.

Reader Question: How Many Episodes are Left?
I’ve received a few questions asking how many episodes are left this season and when we’ll know if and when season 2 will start.
Sebastian writes:
How many episodes are left in this season, and when can we expect season 2 to start? I think I heard there are 13, and the upcoming one is #10. Thanks!
The first part of the question is easy, and Sebastian actually got it right, there are 13 episodes with next week’s being number 10. The pilot episode is counted as 2, which is why there have been only 8 nights of Blade: The Series, but 9 episodes. So, we’ve got 4 episodes left… then what?
Unfortunately I do not know when we’ll know if the show will be back next season. As I mentioned a few days ago, the cast and crew are pushing hard to get people to watch each Wednesday so that it can come back. Apparently the ratings are at such a number that it could go either way.
I have been keeping an eye out for any information, and will definitely continue to do so. Once I know, I’ll be sure to post the information here.

Episode 9: Turn of the Screw
Recap and Review
First, let me say how hilariously awesome the episode title “Turn of the Screw” is. Okay, now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, onto the recap…
Last episode left us hanging with Charlotte’s spy Glynnis catching Krista in the act of turning her dying mother. Before we could see the vampire cat fight agent Ray Collins broke it up, though only temporarily. Tonight’s episode dove right in with the two vampires battling it out and Collins helpless to stop it. Eventually Krista overpowered Glynnis and ashes her with a silver-backed mirror shard. While I’m sad to see the beautiful Glynnis go, I’m happy tha Krista’s secret appears to be safe for the time being.
Krista’s victory was short lived as her newly turned mother broke out of the hospital, leaving no trail. Meanwhile, Blade and Shen discover what Krista’s been up to and track her down. Blade and Shen appear to be somewhat understanding as they don’t kill her on the spot, but rather decide to help her try and find her mother. Unfortunately, her mother was able to kill her uncle and cause comotion at the House of Chthon before Blade and company could catch her. Krista desperately injected her mother with the serum, but as it had no affect, she was forced to shoot her mom, or so we think (the screen went black before we could see the result).
Meanwhile, Chase is off in Las Vegas trying to close a deal for Marcus. During her trip she runs into an old love interest that happens to be a pureblood from the House of Erebus (Erebus was the House from the first Blade movie I believe). Alex, the pureblood, seems genuinely in love with Chase and they both succumb to a night of passion before waking up to an extremely displeased Marcus Van Sciver.

Vote For Your Favorite Blade Character!
I’ve added the first poll to this site and it should prove to be a popular one as I’m asking you to vote for your favorite Blade character. The poll is on the right sidebar and gives 8 of the biggest characters of the show. Let me know if there’s somebody you’d like added to the list.
I’ll be running the poll for at least a week or two, maybe more depending on the response. After I close the poll I’ll post the results and we can see if there are any surprises. I’ll also likely run the poll again after the season is over and see if the results change at all.
Once the poll is done I’ll put up a new one, with my goal being to have one poll running at all times (or at least close to all times). I’m sure you’ve got a favorite character so go vote so that you can support him or her! Also, feel free to discuss your choice in the comments below.
Some Comments Recovered From Spam
I’ve just “unspammed” a few comments that the installed anti-spam software flagged as spam. I believe there were about 3 or 4 comments that were accidentally placed in the spam folder, so I’ve recovered them and they should now appear on the site.
Since this site is set up as a blog with comments allowed under each post, there’s often a massive amount of automated spam comments that are submitted. I’ve installed an anti-spam plugin on the site that catches just about all of them. Unfortunately, it does, rarely, create a few “false positives”, flagging legitimate comments as spam. I try to keep on top of this, but since I usually get hundreds of spam comments throughout the week, I sometimes miss a few.
So, if you ever submit a comment and don’t see it appear, just send me an email via the contact form and let me know so that I can mark it as ok. I wish it could work differently, but those few bad eggs out there running spam programs ruin it for everybody.
Season Two May Depend On You
There has been talk of how well the show has been doing ever since the pilot aired. We know that the ratings broke records for that first episode, but the ratings apparently dipped quite a bit after. However, it’s not uncommon for the ratings to spike in the beginning then trail off a bit. The important thing is that they don’t keep going down.
Well, the last episode actually went up a little in the ratings, which is great news. Supposedly the show sounds like it is on the edge of coming back for a season two, but the ratings for the next couple of episodes will likely be determining factors. David Goyer, Neil Jackson, and Jill Wagner have all come out urging people to watch this week’s episode. They also say that if possible, watch the first airing of the episode (the one that’s on at 10pm), as that is the one that counts.
I personally am not sure how ratings are determined. I don’t know if you have to have a special box on your tv to track your shows, or if they somehow can tell just by the signal being delivered to different homes. I think it’s better to be safe than sorry, so make sure you tune in this Wednesday to help keep this great show alive!
If anybody does know how the ratings are calculated, if you could leave a comment below or send me an email via the contact form that’d be great.

Jessica Gower Wanted To Be Krista Starr
Starburst magazine has an interview with Jessica Gower in issue #340. Luckily for those of us that don’t have the magazine, they’ve posted a snippet on their site. Below is an interesting part where Gower talks about how she was initially looking to play as Krista.
“My agency put me up for the main female role. Krista’s role was really prominent in the pilot and they put me up for that, naturally. The casting lady said, ‘Look, you’re much more suited for the Chase character. Do you want to come back in a half-hour after reading over some new lines and audition for her?’ And straight away I said, ‘Yeah, that sounds great.’ Reading the pilot script, the character wasn’t that big but I was told that they intended to build her up for the series, to develop her more after the pilot.”
I hadn’t heard that before, and I think it was a great decision by the Blade casting people to have Gower play Chase. Imagining her as Krista and somebody else as Chase just doesn’t do it for me.
There are a few more excerpts from the interview over at the Starburst website, as well as a way to buy the magazine if you so desire.
Joke: Best Vampire
There were three vampires arguing at the top of a building one dark and stormy night. They were trying to determine which of them was the best vampire.
The first vampire pushed the others aside shouting “I’m the best here. Do u see that man over there? I can finish him in no time.” He then flew over to the man and returned fifteen seconds later. With blood all over his cape he proclaimed: “See, finished him already.”
The second vampire was not to be outdone. “That’s all you’ve got? Hah, I’m much better than you. See those guys over there? I can finish them in no time.” He then he flew over to the group of people and returned ten seconds later with blood all over his mouth and cape. The first vampire was amazed.
The third vampire laughed. “That’s nothing! I can do much better than that.” He then proceeded to fly off into the distance. Five seconds later he returned with blood all over his face, cape and body. The other two vampires were impressed but before they could congratulate him, the third vampire stopped them, saying “did you see that pole over there? Because I didn’t”.

Episode 8: Sacrifice
Recap and Review
Episode 8 starts off innocently enough with a man alone at a firing range - nothing bad could happen right? Wrong! Bad boy Steppin’ Razor returns in a big way, murdering the man and starting a killing spree of people from Blade’s past. This also triggers multiple Blade flashbacks, all with Blade as a young boy learning to deal with his condition.
Before the flashbacks began, Blade and Shen discovered that the fluid from the previous episode was actually a virus that’s been designed to take out a specific group of… well.. something. While they don’t yet know who (or what) it targets, my guess is purebloods (can’t be humans since they’d lose their food source).
Now, I had heard that this episode was going to feature flashbacks, and while I normally hate such devices, the flashbacks utilized in this episode were pretty good. They tied together Blade’s past with the murders taking place, making sure to provide a great backstory while not seeming out of place. It was definitely interesting to see how Blade and his father had to try and deal with him and his thirst for blood. Bringing in a young Whistler (Blade’s mentor from the movies) was a great tie in and showing how Blade was the cause of his bum leg was a nice reward for fans of the movies.
With the flashbacks ending with Blade running away as a small child, the hunt for Steppin’ Razor brought Blade full circle back to his home and to his father (whom he thought dead). During the best fight scene yet, Blade matched up against Steppin’ pretty evenly. Blade’s father showed up at just the right time, plunging Blade’s sword through both vampires, ashing Steppin’ and wounding Blade. Even though his father saved his life, Blade still holds ill feelings towards his father, so they parted ways moments after seeing each other for the first time in years.

Blade Fan Fiction
If you’re not familiar with what fan fiction is, it’s basically fiction written by fans (duh.) If you want a more detailed explanation, you can check out the wikipedia article. Even though Blade: The Series is still quite new, there’s already a few fans out there starting up their own stories based on the show.
One such fan fiction is “When Passion Ensues” by Caley. The story focuses on Marcus, Krista, and Krista’s mom. There’s only one chapter written so far, but the author plans on having around two to four chapters.
Another piece of fan fiction is entitled “Twisted”, which is written by misshoneywell. Like the other fiction, this one deals with the Marcus Krista relationship. In “Twisted”, the author focuses on internal monologue to try and reveal the inner workings of each character. The story also only has the first part done, but the author hopes to write more as long as there’s a positive response.
If you’re a fan of fan fiction, the show, and especially of Marcus and Krista, you should definitely check these two pieces out. It’s always interesting to see the different interpretations fans have. If you have any fan fiction or know of any that I haven’t listed, please send me the info so that I can help spread the word.
