New Blade Comic Goes On Sale Today

For all the comic book fans out there, Marvel will have the new Blade comic on sale today. You can find details here. Apparently both Spider-Man and Dracula will be making an appearance in this first issue.

First issue details:
BLADE #1 (JUL061951)
Written by MARC GUGGENHEIM
Penciled by HOWARD CHAYKIN
Cover by MARKO DJURDJEVIC
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$2.99
FOC – 8/31, On Sale – 9/20/2006

I know a few readers are wondering if I’ll be picking up the comic and talking about it here. Sadly, no, I won’t. While it’d be nice to broaden the site to cover all aspects of Blade, I think it might get in the way of the real focus… the television series. I’ll definitely cover big events relating to Blade such as this new comic series as well as if there are any announcements of new movies, etc, but I won’t be covering the comic books in a more detailed fashion.

Okay, the truth also is that I personally don’t like to read. I don’t really have the attention span for it. While comic books are much lighter on the reading, they are still something I can’t really get into.

So there you have it. If you’re a fan of comic books and a fan of Blade, you may want to check out the first issue of the new comic as it does sound intriguing.

Who Doesn’t Like a Popularity Contest?

Apparently people like popularity contests because a whopping 447 people voted in the latest poll that asked who your favorite character is. If you recall, this question was asked many weeks ago in the first poll here. In those results Krista barely squeeked by Marcus as she held 32% of the votes.

Since then new characters have appeared and others have died off. Also, this latest poll included just about every character from Blade and Marcus to Fritz and Sands. Was Krista able to pull off a repeat victory? Find out below.

Who’s Your Favorite Character?
Marcus: 32% (141)
Krista: 24% (108)
Chase: 12% (55)
Blade: 11% (48)
Shen: 9% (40)
Charlotte: 6% (28)
Steppin’ Razor: 2% (9)
Collins: 1% (4)
Glynnis: 1% (4)
Boone: 1% (3)
Thorne: 0% (2)
Frederick: 0% (1)
Damek: 0% (1)
Cain: 0% (1)
Sands: 0% (1)
Reverend Carlyle: 0% (1)
Fritz: 0% (0)
Zack: 0% (0)
Vanessa: 0% (0)
Total: 447

Spike TV’s Scream Awards

Spike TV has had information on their new Scream Awards up on their website for awhile, but since it’s taking place October 10th, I figured it was a little too far out to mention it previously. Now that it’s less than a month away, I guess it’s time to post about it and see if it’s even worth the mention.

When I first read about Spike TV doing an awards show called the Scream Awards, I was certain Blade: The Series would be in there with multiple nominations. Sadly, I was mistaken. The vampire show isn’t in a single category. It’s kind of rediculous, really, since it is a vampire show and it is on Spike TV.

The whole thing sounds kind of lame in my opinion, since most of the categories have nothing to do with screaming or horror. While I love Battlestar Galactica (it’s definitely one of my top three shows), what the heck is it doing in an award show called the Scream Awards? I’m definitely disappointed with how this award show is setup and will likely not tune in October to watch.

One thing to note is that Blade: The Series is at least somewhat represented with Batman Begins being nominated as it was written by Blade: The Series writer David Goyer. Also, there’s probably a good chance that at least one or two Blade cast members will make an appearance seeing as it is on Spike TV and I’m guessing the network would love any chance they can get to plug the show (that’s if they decide to pick it up for a second season). I’ll be keeping an eye out for any information on the presenters to see if any of our Blade people will be there representing the show.

Goyer’s New Movie “The Invisible”

Blade: The Series writer David Goyer has a new movie scheduled to be released in January called The Invisible. Goyer is the director of the movie and you can check out the trailer here.

It seems to be about a young man who’s invisible to others because of a tragic accident. It very much resembles the movie Ghost, at least for me. The big difference seems to be that in The Invisible, the main character may actually still be alive, though he must solve his supposed murder to remain so.

It’s definitely interesting and if Goyer’s involved I’m sure it’s pretty good. I just hope it’s not too much like Ghost (though I did like that movie quite a lot).

Neil Jackson and Stephen Dorff Set For Dark Room Movie

Neil Jackson has just posted on his blog some information about a new movie he’s involved in called Dark Room.

From the blog post:
Stephen Dorff has just signed on to star alongside Neil Jackson in DARK ROOM, a thriller set to start shooting in Morocco next month. For more information go to ww.myspace.com/darkroomfilm

It’s interesting to see the two Blade villains scheduled to work on a film together (Stephen Dorff is the actor that played Deacon Frost in the first Blade movie). It appears as though Jackson is the writer of the movie as well as starring in it.

I am a big fan of Jackson’s work in Blade as well as Dorff’s various roles so I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this project.

New Poll: Favorite Blade Character - Take 2

Like I mentioned before, I’ve been planning on doing a followup poll to ask you all again who your favorite Blade: The Series character is after the season has ended. The previous favorite character poll had a great response and I’m predicting an even bigger response this time. Below is the list of character you can vote for.

  • Blade
  • Krista
  • Marcus
  • Shen
  • Chase
  • Boone
  • Charlotte
  • Frederick
  • Collins
  • Damek
  • Thorne
  • Cain
  • Sands
  • Steppin’ Razor
  • Reverend Carlyle
  • Fritz
  • Zack
  • Vanessa
  • Glynnis

As you can see, I decided to thrown in just about every character I could think of. I was going to make it the same options as the previous favorite character poll so that we could compare them better, but I figure it wouldn’t be fair to include a character like Frederick and not Collins when Collins had more screen time. And then I thought that if I was going to go ahead and include Collins I might as well include everybody so that we can get a more complete picture of the popular characters in the show.

Hopefully I didn’t leave out anybody too important. I tried to include everybody with a decent amount of time and/or importance - meaning being a named character with at least a couple episodes under their belt.

I’ll be ending the poll sometime Tuesday (9/19) afternoon so be sure to get your vote in by then.

Episode 13: Conclave

Recap and Review
The finale opens with Marcus showing Krista around the newly built Conclave location while Blade and Shen are busy in their lair setting up a Conclave infiltration operation. Unfortunately for our good guys, Chase arrives with a squad of gun-wielding vampires and/or familiars. Before Shen can set off the auto destruct system he’s knocked unconcious. Blade is able to set off the explosives but not until after Chase takes off with Shen.

Back at Marcus’ office, Krista is instructed to torture Shen in an effort to pry information out of him. Knowing she has no choice, Krista proceeds to pull off Shen’s fingernails one by one. When Marcus asks her to escalate the pain, she moves in on Shen and acts as if she’s breaking his fingers, but breaks her own instead - seemingly fooling Marcus and also giving her the chance to slip Shen a blade to escape with.

Krista and ChaseLuckily for Shen, it’s not long before Marcus and Krista are called away, giving him the opportunity to break out. After taking out a rather large vampire guard and sneaking by some other Chthon underlings, he’s able to escape and meet back up with Blade, whose just gotten back from obtaining the key to the Conclave (the architect’s eyeball). The two head off to the Pure Blood meeting place to make sure Marcus is able to pull off his plans.

Meanwhile, Marcus, Krista, and Chase are called on to present the Aurora vaccine to the Pure Blood council. Marcus gives a brief little speech before revealing his true intentions. Unfortunately for our smooth talking villain, he was betrayed by Chase and the Pure Blood poison fails to be released. We learn that she really was working with Charlotte and that Charlotte either called her or the Pure Blood “overlord” (apparently the head of the Chthon council) to let them know of Marcus’ plans.

Life After Season 1

With the first season of Blade: The Series coming to an end tonight, I just wanted to let you all know there will still be plenty of reasons to check this site out after the finale. Obviously, I’ll be posted my episode recap and review like I always do, but even after that there will be many updates and new features added here.

Unfortunately I don’t know whether or not the show will be back for a second season (though Kirk Jones did unofficially tell us that it will be in the previously posted interview). If the show does come back for a second season, I’ll definitely be keeping this place up-to-date with the latest and greatest news and information regarding the show and all its cast. If the show isn’t picked up again, I’ll try to maintain this place as long as possible though I’m not sure what my motivation would be at that point.

Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that this place will still have plenty of things to check out once the season is over. Not only that, I do have a few other projects that are related to television that you may be interested in and I’ll post a few updates on those here in a week or two.

Let’s all keep hoping the show gets picked up for another season, and let’s all make sure we grab whoever we can to watch tonight’s finale so that we can bump those ratings up as high as possible!

Web Server Issues

I just wanted to give you all a heads up that there are some web server issues going on with my web host right now. You may have experienced some of those problems earlier today when the site went down momentarily. My host is working to resolve these issues and I believe they have scheduled some maintenance tonight at 10:00 PM PST. Yeah, the same time Blade airs… great. I doubt their work will affect the site for more than an hour (likely it won’t affect it more than a few minutes), so it shouldn’t delay my episode recap… hopefully.

Hit the Road Jack, and Don’t You Come Back No More

So, the results are in for the latest poll and with a whopping 46% of votes, Frederick seems to be the character people want brought back for the finale the most.

Who do You Want to See Return in the Finale?
Frederick: 46% (74)
Boone: 25% (40)
Zack: 14% (22)
Cain: 9% (14)
Sands: 4% (6)
Vanessa: 4% (6)
Total: 162

I too, voted for Frederick, as the potential he brings to the plot is enormous in my opinion. He could come back to help Krista and attack Chase, or perhaps he could come to Chase’s aid when the time comes. His past is incredibly mysterious, though it’s obviously important as he is not only Chase’s ex-husband, but the man who turned her. Also, I love the concept behind the House of Leichen, so any representation they have during the finale would be great.

I was surprised to see Boone receive so many votes (25%), as it seems as though his character is a fairly unpopular one. Perhaps most are hoping he returns just to be killed off? I was hoping Cain would receive more votes, as he is definitely my second choice. The asher plotline was incredibly strong and they kind of just abandoned it for the remainder of the season. Maybe having him team up with Blade during the finale would be a little over the top, though I’d still enjoy it. I think Sands and Vanessa were too minor to be considered much, as they really aren’t very integral. I think there’s a high chance that we’ll see Zack during another flash back or two during the finale, just in time to save or confuse Krista.

All in all, I think the votes were about what I thought they’d be. While I doubt we’ll see Vanessa or Cain in the finale, there’s a decent chance we’ll see at least one of the others (hopefully Frederick). Thanks to all who voted, and as always look for the next poll on Thursday.
