Episode 6: The Evil Within

Recap and Review
With last week's episode leaving us hanging as Krista submerged into the pool of blood, last night's episode starts off running and never stops.

Though the build up was on the anticipation of Krista's experience with the blood bathing ritual, this episode really brushed right by it. A brief dream type sequence showing Krista Boone's location and poof, she's awake (of course, she apparently was under for more than five hours, which was some sort of House of Liechen record). I was expecting a more long drawn out experience with an even longer after effect. It was a pleasant surprise to see that they didn't dwell on the ordeal, though they definitely took the opportunity to reveal a few key elements.

First, Chase's ex-husband Frederick discovers that being under the blood for as long as Krista was either meant the she didn't want to help kill Boone or that she was having trouble adjusting to the vampire way of life. When he lets Krista know this she tried convincing him that she had some sort of fling with Boone, and that is why she didn't want to kil Boone. However, after Frederick discovered an empty vial of serum, I think it's safe to say he's definitely in the know.

The second thing the blood bath did was to make resisting the vampire lifestyle that much more difficult for Krista. Her urge to feed and be free like Boone increased significantly after the blood connection. She may still be able to resist temptation, but she's definitely finding it harder.

After Krista tells Chase Boone's location, we finally find out Boone's intentions and why he's such a problem for Marcus. As I had mentioned in previous posts, Boone's big weapon is his knowledge of Marcus' plans. Specifically, he knows about Marcus kidnapping vampires from the House of Armaya. Boone tries to use this knowledge as leverage to get into the House of Armaya. Unfortunately for Boone, Chase, Krista, and a group of vampires from the House of Chthon arrive and kill all the Armayan vampires before the secret gets out. Boone, however, escapes even though Chase believes him dead.

Reminder: Spike TV's Women of Action Tomorrow

Just wanted to remind all the Jill Wagner fans out there that Spike TV's Women of Action show airs tomorrow (Thursday, July 27th) at 9 PM. If you still haven't voted for your favorite Spike TV action girl, you can do it here.

I'm not quite sure exactly how the format of the show is going to work, but I'm guessing they'll be doing a little backstory on each of the ladies and likely go into a bit of detail on their roles in various Spike TV shows. Jill Wagner is currently only 1% behind first place on the voting, so make sure you cast yours before it's too late.

Blade Characters Poem

I like to dabble with poetry once in awhile and felt like I should try doing one about the characters in Blade: The Series. Well, below is that poem. It covers the 5 main characters, Blade, Shen, Krista, Chase, and Marcus. Enjoy!

Characters of Blade

Blade's the hero of this colorful cast.
He's the main good guy with a darkened past.
He's called daywalker 'cuz he's a special breed.
He has no weaknesses, except the urge to feed.
But with a serum made by Shen, his bud,
He's able to resist his thirst for blood.

Speaking of Shen, the man behind the scenes,
He's the comic relief, and he loves his machines.
We don't see him much, but we know that he's there.
He's the sidekick of this vampire hunting pair.
He's willing to fight with his mortal skin.
He's got Blade's back through thick and through thin.

Now Krista Starr is an odd one indeed.
She seems to be good, but for how long we'll see.
She's sexy and strong and sneaky too.
And she's doing what Blade tells her to do.
She's a vampire whose soul may eventually fade,
But as of right now, she's siding with Blade.

On the other side we've got this girl Chase,
She's a vicious killer with a pretty face.
One of Marcus' favorites, she's close to it all,
But her hunger for power may lead to her fall.
We know she's evil, but we don't know her plans.
We know she's got motives, but not where she stands.

And last but not least, there's Marcus Van Sciver.
He's runs much of Chthon and he's a survivor.
He's a smooth talker and evil to the bone.
He kills humans and experiments on his own.
We don't know his goals, but we know that they're grand.
Not even Chase knows all that he's planned.

There's good and bad and lots in between.
Some may play nice, but most will play mean.
Characters with covers that mustn't be blown,
There's parts to be played, some hidden, some known.
With lies and deception and uncertainty,
Entertainment seems the only guarantee.

Reader Question: Any Movie Cameo Plans?

Yet another reader question has come pouring in, this time from Mike..

Mike. asks:
I'm a big fan of the show, as well as the movies and comics. What I'm wondering is if you think they might bring back some movie characters for cameos in the series.

In a previous post I pointed out this interview with Blade writer David Goyer. The reason I mention this is because Goyer is actually asked the very question we're looking to answer.

When asked by TVGuide.com "Will other characters from the Blade films appear on the series?". Goyer responds "Possibly. We have a flashback in which a young Whistler, who was played by Kris Kristofferson in the films, appears. We do flashbacks, so although a lot of our characters ended up dying, we have plans, if we go into a second season, to bring back two or three other characters from the films."

The followup question by TVGuide.com presses further asking "Which other characters might show up?", to which Goyer replies "Dr. Karen Jenson, the hematologist from the first movie, and Hannibal King, the nightstalker (played by Ryan Reynolds) from the third film will show up again."

So, it definitely looks like they plan on bringing in characters from the movies. They are even bringing in some dead characters through flashbacks which should be cool for fans of the movies. If anybody else knows of any characters that are rumored to be showing up from the movies be sure to leave a comment below.

Site Updates

You've probably noticed a few changes to the site, albeit small ones. The biggest changes are the few ads I've added, such as the one just below the header. Hopefully these ads aren't too intrusive as I really don't want to make the site annoying. I've hand selected the banner ads so that they are very relevant, such as the Suspense & Horror DVDs $4.99 sale at Buy.com (yes, that's an affiliate link as well).

I'll be adding more to the rotations, and probably a few more to the sidebar, but the main content area shouldn't be getting many (if any) more ad spots. Please let me know if any of the ads are too intrusive or annoying. I'm not trying to get rich off this site or anything, but it'd be nice if it could help pay for my hosting costs a bit.

Reader Question: Info on Marcus and Krista Chemistry

Marcus BloodlinesI've received another great reader question via the contact form but I, unfortunately, don't have much of an answer. As such, I'm hoping by posting it here perhaps some readers may have some information that could be helpful. Below is the question and below that is my lengthy attempt at an answer, which could definitely use some help.

Joponica writes:
Love the show and this site is very informative.I may be a minority , but I love the character if Marcus Van Sciver and I would also secretly like to see what they would do with he and Krista. There is so much chemistry with those two. Are there any websites that promote Marcus and Krista?

First, thanks for the great question Joponica. Like Joponica, I'm very fascinated with the connection between Marcus and Krista. The first couple episodes were pretty strong on this connection, but lately the Marcus / Krista relationship thing has been put on hold.

We still don't know his reasons for turning her, or exactly how much he trusts her. It does appear that he cares for her a great deal (the scene showing him by Krista's side after she killed Fritz for example). We also don't know exactly what Krista feels for Marcus. In the beginning, all she wanted to do was kill him, even though Blade told her not to. Now she appears to either be going along with Blade's plan of spying on Marcus or perhaps she has actual feelings for Marcus after he turned her.

Chase is obviously going to be some sort of added conflict here, which can only add to the excitement. Her character has only recently been given more screen time, so as her character develops, so should the love triangle between Marcus, Krista, and Chase. Of course, it's probably more than a triangle as we also have Blade who might have feelings for Krista, as well as Chase's ex husband who might still have feelings for Chase and has also shown that he may have feelings for Krista as well.

Anyway, that really doesn't answer much of the question, which boils down to whether or not there are websites that promote Marcus and Krista. I've given a bit of depth on their relationship above, but perhaps there are some sites out there that are dedicated to these two characters, or better yet, a website dedicated to the chemistry between the two.

I did mention in a previous post that some of the cast had MySpace pages. There's one for Jill Wagner (Krista Starr) and Neil Jackson (Marcus Van Sciver), but they don't provide much new information.

So, with all that being said, if you know of any sites that focus primarily on either character or perhaps on the love triangle going on, leave a comment below.

Episode 5: Bloodlines

Recap and Review
So, you're probably like me and have been craving more backstory for Blade ever since the first movie. Well, last night's episode, "Bloodlines", delivered.

Before they could get to Blade's backstory, they had to handle the whole business with Marcus' doctor. Well, wham, bam, thank you ma'am they handled it right away with the doctor blowing his head off within the first couple minutes of the show. With that loose end tied up, the story moved right along to the focus of this episode, the Bad Bloods gang.

Blade Chained
Apparently Blade did a bit of damage as a young half vampire - feeding on humans and even turning a few into vampires. Some of his first turns were a group of pretty bad guys called the Bad Bloods. Being turned by the Daywalker isn't such a good thing though, as all the vampire Houses not only reject you from joining, many of them seek out and destroy any vampire from Blade's "bloodline" (get the title of the episode yet?).

With Blade's blood being a one way ticket to being ashed, the gang of Bad Blood's decide it's time to try and get into good graces with the House of Chthon by offering up Blade. To get to Blade they use Reverend Carlyle, the man who has been helping out the ash drug addicts cope with the nasty side effects. Unfortunately for Carlyle, the Bad Blood's decided to kill him once they got what they wanted.

With Blade being chained up by the Bad Blood's, we are given a healthy dose of Blade history. The above mentioned Daywalker bloodline information is revealed as well as the fact that Blade's tattoos are signs of belonging to the Bad Blood gang. We also learn about how Whistler (the older man from the movies played by Kris Kristofferson) grabbed Blade from the Bad Bloods gang while killing a few along the way.

The episode couldn't completely revolve around Blade, so Shen comes to the rescue at the end. He pumps Blade full of serum to help Blade's thirst, which then allows Blade to kick some Bad Blood butt. Blade kills them all off, except for the apparent leader Steppin Razor, who is able to run away.

Interview With Writer Geoff Johns

Geoff Johns is a comic book writer who's worked on comics such as The Avengers, The Flash, and Teen Titans. You can read more about him here. The reason why this guy is important to the Blade show is that he's one of the writers alongside David Goyer.

ComicMonsters.com recently posted an interview with Johns, an interview with perfect timing since Johns wrote the Blade episode "Bloodlines" which airs tonight.

From the interview:
TheBigBadWolf: The vampire ash angle adds a whole new dimension to Blade the Series. How did you guys come up with that idea, and what can we expect from that angle?

Geoff Johns: Let’s be honest here, vampire shows are not new. Ultra-Violet, Buffy, Kindred and Angel. We wanted to build on what the films created and add more elements not seen in other shows. Vampire ash as a drug is new and specific to the Blade world. And it allows for stories to spring up from it. What do ashers do? Who’s addicted to ash? What happens if someone we know is forced to take it? Vampires vs. ashers. Stuff like that. I wish I had some vampire ash.

If you're interested in how the comics tie into the show, what kind of villains to expect, Blade's screentime, or pretty much anything else having to do with Blade: The Series, head on over and read the full interview with Johns.

I've added a plugin to the site that displays related posts at the bottom of individual posts. It's not a bit update, but it should hopefully prove useful as it can point out articles related to the one you're currently viewing.

I still have more site additions as well as content features that I'm planning on adding, so if there's anything in particular you'd like to see added, make sure you leave a comment or send me your suggestions via the contact form.

Jill Wagner Up For Hottest Woman Of Spike TV

SpikeTV.com is has put up a voting page for the hottest Women of Spike, and Blade: The Series star Jill Wagner is one of the sexy ladies you can vote for. As of this writing, she's in second place with 27% of the votes; Laura Rodriguez from the Fight Night pre-show hostess is in first with 34%.

Apparently the contest is a promo for Spike TV's Women of Action show that'll debut Thursday, July 27th at 9pm. The site is kind of hard to follow so I'm not sure exactly what that show is about, though I'd expect it to at least cover the winner of the online poll.

Unfortunately there's only a small picture of each woman with very few details on each. However, if you're a fan of Jill Wagner and her character Krista Starr, you should still head on over and vote!
