Jill Wagner and FHM
In case you didn’t see it, Jill Wagner was featured in FHM magazine a little while back. She talks about her life, Blade: The Series, as well as a few other interesting topics. However, you’re not interested in all that are you? You just want to see the pictures don’t you?
Well, FHM has you covered with a few online Jill Wagner photos. If you thought she was hot in the pilot, you should definitely check out the pics. And yeah, they have an article there too in case you need to pretend you’re not there for the photos.

Who Was That Little Girl?
This is the first (of I hope many) posts where I’ll be answering reader questions about the show and/or cast. The first question sent in was from Sebastian where he asks “any idea when the child vampire girl will appear, her name and info?”, referring to the shot of a young girl during the previews at the end of the pilot episode.
Well Sebastian, I’m actually glad you brought that little girl up. When I watched the previews at the end and saw her, I knew had I had seen her before but couldn’t quite place where. I did some digging and found that her name is Emily Hirst (sometimes accredited as Emily Herst) and realized that I had seen her on a Smallville episode where she played a girl that I believe had the ability to manipulate glass.
You can check out her filmography at IMDB and you’ll probably notice that she’s played quite a few scifi / fantasy roles for being so young. There you’ll also see that her character name on Blade: The Series is Charlotte. I did some further research and found that she has actually signed on for 6 episodes, so she may end up being a regular cast member with a recurring role.
I didn’t really want to dig any further and find out about the Charlotte character as it might give away too much about the plot. I’d like to keep as much of this site as spoiler free as possible, with the obvious exception being the episode wrap ups.
I hope you’ve all enjoyed this first Reader Questions post. If you’ve got any questions you’d like answered, head on over to the contact form and shoot me an email.

Episode 1: Pilot
General Thoughts and Recap
In an awkward start for a new televisions series, the actual start time was pushed back about 10 minutes due to a UFC fight running late. Once that wrapped up though, the blood and gore could… well.. continue.
Let me first say that I enjoyed this first episode. While it wasn’t great, and definitely had its flaws, I saw the potential that could be tapped with a very interesting world that has some very intriguing plot elements. I found that I was getting more and more into the underlying story as the show progressed, and will hopefully see future episodes build on the foundations created by this first episode.
So how do you start a television series starring Blade (Kirk Jones)? With him chasing down a vampire on a motorcycle of course. The opening scene in Moscow was done pretty well. It set the tone of the show as being dark and willing to show some gruesome deaths. The problem was that it also showed how weak the fight scenes would be.
After Blade’s done in Moscow, the setting quickly shifted to Detroit where the show spent the next hour or so trying to introduce the audience to the story and new characters. (read more…)
Free iTunes Download of the Blade Series Pilot
According to Playlist Magazine, the pilot episode for Blade: The Series is available as a free download from iTunes. It’s expected to remain available for free until July 11, so make sure you go download if if you haven’t seen it yet.
In Case You Missed It
The pilot for Spike TV’s Blade: The Series premiered last night and it was pretty good, definitely worthy of my TiVo’s season pass. I’ll have my full recap and review either later today or tomorrow. If you happened to miss the show, don’t worry because it looks like the pilot episode will be airing three more times before the next episode hits.
The below times are PST and I’m not sure if they will be air at different times for different time zones, so make sure you verify yours if you’re not on the West Coast.
- Saturday July 1 at 4:00 PM
- Sunday July 2 at 9:00 PM
- Tuesday July 4 at 10:00 PM
And remember, once you have seen the episodes, make sure to come back here with your comments and questions as I’ll be doing an episode wrap up (likely tomorrow) and hope that we can get some great discussions going.

Blade The Series Premieres Tonight!
In case you’re new here or you’ve forgotten, the premiere for the Blade television series is tonight (Wednesday June 27) at 10PM on Spike TV. It’s going to be two hours long so make sure you’re set to record that extra hour if you’re not going to be watching it live.
Later this week I’ll be posting the first (of many) episode recaps/reviews. I want to say it’ll be done tomorrow, but I can’t guarantee that I’ll have it ready by then. I’d like to have some good discussions about each episode, so after you’ve watched it, make sure you come back here and post your thoughts in the comments section of the episode recap. Hopefully we can get some good dialogue going.

10 PM Time Slot
With the Blade series being in the 10 pm time slot, Spike TV will have a little more wiggle room for sex and violence. In case you didn’t know, television shows are given much more freedom to show sex and violence on TV after 10pm. The reason behind it is that kids should be in bed by then, thus allowing more adult shows to be aired.
The writers and producers of the show have specifically mentioned the fact that their time slot has given them more freedom with respect to blog, gore, and sex. I, for one, am excited about this.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not usually all about the blood and gore (though maybe the sex), but you can’t have a vampire show without blood. Vampire death scenes can be some of the best death scenes on screen if done right and hopefully the writers and the director of the show will take advantage of their 10 o’clock slot.
They have said they’re going to show us something great… let’s hope they’re not full of it.

Pilot Information
Just wanted to emphasize that the pilot episode of the new Blade television series will be airing on Spike TV on June 28 (this Wednesday) at 10 pm. The pilot is 2 hours long and is supposed to have “limited” commercial interruptions. Other shows have claimed limited interruptions without merit, but hopefully this time limited actually means limited.
Miscellaneous Show Details
The Blade tv series on Spike TV will be Spike TV’s first original scripted series. Spike TV first ordered the 2 hour pilot, and has since ordered 11 more episodes.
Production took place in Vancouver this past spring and was produced by New Line Television. David S. Goyer, the screenwriter and producer of the Blade trilogy as well as Batman Begins, is both writer and executive producer for the Blade television series. Popular comic book writer Geoff Johns is also taking on roles as writer and producer.
The series is expected to follow the continuity of the Blade movies, but will introduce new characters and storylines. As such, the only expected returning character from the movies is Blade himself, who’ll be played not be Wesley Snipes, but by Kirk ‘Sticky’ Jones.
There’s been a lot of money thrown at the series, and though promotion has kicked up a few notches, there’s still relatively little information out there about the show. Once I find out about it, I’ll definitely be posting it here, so check back often. If you have any news tips or information, please send them my way either through the comments section or the contact form.
Blade Cast Promote Show At Ultimate Fighter Finale
Spike TV had their Ultimate Fighter live finale last night. What does that have to do with Blade? Well, Spike TV used the opportunity to promote the hell out of the show. Besides having trailers and previews during nearly every commercial break, they had Kirk Jones (Blade), Jill Wagner (Krista), and Neil Jackson (Marcus) there to promote it even more. After certain fights they even had Joe Rogan, one of the fight announcers, interview a cast member about the new show.
Kirk Jones talked about the intense training he had to go through to prepare for the show. He specifically mentioned kickboxing, martial arts, and wire training. His “interview” was quite brief and besides the training information, he really just talked about how much he enjoyed the UFC and how he believes it will take over boxing.
A few fights later Jill Wagner was asked a few questions, also focusing on her training. She said how she didn’t have to do much training for martial arts because her brother is a big martial arts guy and he had trained her a lot already. She also talked about how she has a gun collection and that she’s very comfortable holding guns onscreen.
I did mention that Neil Jackson was in attendance, but Rogan didn’t speak with him. We actually only saw him when the camera was focused in on Kirk and Jill with Neil poking his head in from the side. That shot actually showed Jill being very friendly with Kirk, with her arms wrapped around his and leaning all over him. Actors often show affection like this to the cameras without it meaning anything more than friendship, but it’ll be interesting to see if an onscreen romance translates into something in the real world as it often does.
All in all, it was good to see Spike TV putting in a good amount of effort to promote the show. It’s been said that they spent a lot of money on the pilot and are backing it 100%. Hopefully these are all good signs of it becoming a successful show.
