Poll Results: Guys Rule... Barely

So the votes are in and it appears that men just beat out women.

Are You Male or Female?
Male: 52% (43)
Female: 48% (40)
Total Votes : 83

As you can see, it was a very close poll. While I knew many women were fans of the show and this site, I really am surprised to see it being just about a 50/50 split. I think it's great that both men and women enjoy the show and this site.

I think these results reflected the viewership of the show pretty well. I know that there were many episodes where there were just about the same amount of women watching as men. For Spike, this meant that there relatively large ratings weren't quite good enough since there were many more women watching than expected.

Again, it wasn't that women watching hurt the show, it was that not enough men watched to make it worth the advertisers' time. Hopefully a new network with a broader demographic can pick up the show and have some success with it.

Thanks to all that voted!

Poll Extended a Day

Given that tonight is Halloween, I figured I should go ahead and push back the closing of the current poll until tomorrow afternoon. This is for two reasons:

1. With only a little over 70 votes, I don't want anybody to miss the chance to vote in the poll due to it being Halloween.

2. I don't want to worry about making a results post later tonight during Halloween when I'm not sure exactly how busy I'll be.

So yeah, I guess you could chalk it up to me just being selfish.

Geoff Johns' Last Signing of the Year

If you're going to be near the Norman, Oklahoma area tomorrow (October 28), you may want to check out this Christopher Reeve Foundation fundraising dinner. Why? Because Blade: The Series writer Geoff Johns will be in attendance and it appears that it will be his last signing of the year.

The dinner will be from 8 to 10 pm and since it's a fundraising dinner, tickets are a bit steep at $200 each. However, with 100 percent of the money going towards the foundation and its research, it's really going to a good cause. On top of that Tickets are tax-deductible so that's a little bonus as well. If you're looking to just go for the signing, you can go to the Speeding Bullet Comics store from 3 to 6 pm, which is completely free.

For more details you can check out the Speeding Bullet Comics website.

New Poll: Are You Male or Female?

Following in the footsteps of a few previous polls, this week's poll will help us all get a better understanding of the demographic of the fans that frequent this site. I've asked age and I've asked location. That leaves the last big one... are you male or female?

Not much to the poll, but the results may prove interesting. I honestly have no idea how the votes will swing.

Jill Wagner in Esquire Magazine

Jill Wagner has posted on her MySpace Blog that she's in the November issue of Esquire Magazine. It apparently features Scarlett Johansson on the cover, so that's what to look for when your out and about.

It's great to see the cast is still alive and kicking (Wagner in this magazine, and attending the Scream Awards with Jessica Gower, along with Neil Jackson appearing on a Cold Case episode). I just wish they were all alive and kicking in the Blade series. Hope is not lost, but it's sure getting there.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance In Stores

I'm a pretty big video game nerd and one game I've been watching develop is Marvel's Ultimate Alliance game - which was just released yesterday. Why should you care? Well, because you can actually play as Blade!

I haven't bought the game yet, but I most likely will once it comes to Nintendo's new console, the Wii. If you're a fan of video games and comics, the latest from Marvel looks to pack more comic book characters into a single game than ever before. I've played and enjoyed the X-Men Legends games (which supposedly play similar to the new Ultimate Alliance game), so I'm definitely looking forward to checking this one out.

Moon Knight Headed to Television?

In a semi Blade related news story, there's word that the Marvel character Moon Knight may be getting his own series in the near future. The character was alluded to during the first couple episodes of Blade: The Series, and I believe writers David Goyer and Geoff Johns had mentioned the possibility of him making an appearance in the series. It now looks as though he may be getting a series of his own.

I, personally, don't know much about the character as I'm not into the comic book scene and have really only followed the Blade movies and show. Also, the news doesn't say whether or not the show has been picked up by a network yet, just that Marvel Studios has teamed up with No Equal Entertainment to develop a Moon Knight based television series.

Poll Results: Sticky Fingaz Makes the Grade

The latest poll asked you all what you thought of Kirk "Sticky Fingaz" Jones as Blade. I've heard a lot of grumbles from people saying that he was the reason the show didn't take off and that he was too different from the movie Blade (Wesley Snipes). Well, the latest poll shows results implies that his performance was much better than some of the critics have claimed.

How Was Kirk Jones as Blade?
Okay: 55% (76)
Excellent: 32% (45)
Not Good: 9% (12)
Horrible: 4% (6)
Total Votes : 139

As you can see, only 13% of you thought Jones was "not good" or "horrible". I actually thought those numbers were going to be much higher from what my impression was of the views most fans had of him. I did expect the "okay" choice to be the most popular (and it was what I chose as well), but seeing 32% of the votes go towards "excellent" is actually quite shocking for me.

Now, don't get me wrong, I loved the show, but it really took a long time for me to get used to Kirk Jones as Blade. It wasn't all his fault since he did have to follow Wesley Snipes and with much of the writing having Jones as almost a supporting role rather than the focus, it was hard for Jones' performance stand out. I do, however, think this helped him a lot since both Jill Wagner and Neil Jackson had much stronger performances and had much more interesting characters. This allowed much of the flaws I saw in Kirk Jones be masked, but I do still think he needed quite a bit of work.

If he was the main focus of the show, I probably would have voted "not good", but since he was kind of in the background for much of it, he got an "okay" from me.

Thanks to all that voted and be sure to check out the new poll tomorrow.

Secret Tivo Promotion

Ok, so I normally don't like posting actual ads inside a post, but I received an email from Tivo about a "secret" promotion they are having on their Series 2 80 hour devices. The full promotional information is: Save $99 on TiVo! Get a new 80 hour TiVo DVR + one year of service for only $125!.

Now that's an incredible deal since it would normally cost $224 for the same thing. They aren't advertising this promotion, only sending it to affiliates (which I am). If you don't need one of their dual tuner or Series 3 machines, I'd highly recommend jumping on this deal. I have a 40 hour Series 2 Tivo and I really don't know how I lived without it.

I wouldn't post about this unless I really love the product and think this deal is definitely something you all should at least check out (perhaps as a gift for Christmas?).

New Poll: How Was Kirk Jones as Blade?

One of the biggest topics of debate for the Blade show (other than it's cancellation by Spike TV) is the performance of Kirk "Sticky Fingaz" Jones as Blade. Some say he did a great job while others think he is a big reason why the show wasn't picked up. Well, now's your chance to let us all know what you think about his performance as Blade.

How Was Kirk Jones as Blade?

  • Excellent

  • Okay

  • Not Good

  • Horrible

As you can see, there's only four choices so choose what matches your feelings the best.
